Custom TruArray Microarrays are manufactured by co-polymerization, with printing and flow cell assembly occurring in our Class 10,000 temperature- and humidity-controlled clean room. Oligonucleotide probes are synthesized in-house or you can provide them to us for printing. Approximately 10% of a microarray production run (batch) undergoes quality control checks, including visual and spectrophotometric inspections of spot number, size and morphology. Product barcodes are applied to the device, followed by packaging in vacuum-sealed wrappers or microscope slide boxes.

Akonni Biosystems’ Custom TruArray Microarrays are special. They are low-density in format and carry from 5 to 200 micro gel-drops per array. Because of the aqueous nature of the TruArray gel-drops, compared with other microarray platforms, Akonni Biosystems’ Custom TruArray Microarrays provide more efficient molecular recognition events and flexible reaction vessel compartments to load different assay reagents. Drops can even be mixed and matched with different molecules, chemicals or enzymatic reagents resulting in the design of a truly unique “multiplexed assay-on-a-chip”. And, because of the aqueous-hydrogel nature of the gel-drop polymer, each Custom TruArray Microarray feature behaves as a “nano-scale test tube”, with each test tube being tailored to carry out a broad range of diagnostic biochemical tests.

To ensure the production of high quality microarrays, Akonni Biosystems uses precision robotics to place each micro gel-drop accurately at a specific location on either plastic or glass slides. Each gel-drop is 120 microns in diameter by 20 microns in height, about 0.2 nanoliters in volume, composed of approximately 99 percent water and typically 300 microns from an adjacent gel-drop . For greater ease-of-use and efficiency, multiple Custom TruArray Microarrays can be printed on a single microarray slide. Slides can then be heated with most commercial incubators, ovens or thermal cyclers, and imaged and analyzed with most commercial fluorescent or colorimetric scanners and analysis software.
