Development of the Akonni TruDiagnosis® platform dates back to 1990 and the beginning of the Human Genome Project (HGP), when the U.S. Department of Energy initiated programs under this massive effort. Today, as a result, scientists have identified enormous amounts of genetic information related to human diseases. The challenge is to make this information accessible to physicians in their day-to-day treatment of patients. Towards this end, Akonni obtained an exclusive license to the gel-drop microarray platform from the U.S. Argonne National Laboratory and Russian Engelhardt Institute of Molecular Biology and launched a company whose mission was to bring this technology to fruition.
