An Array of Diagnostic Information at Your Fingertips
Today, the Akonni TruDiagnosis platform is backed by over 15 years of development and 88 peer reviewed publications for protein, nucleic acid and on-chip PCR assays; an exclusively licensed intellectual property portfolio consisting of 23 issued patents and 10 patents pending; and a cooperative research and development agreement (CRADA) with Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) for manufacturing technology transfer. The exclusively licensed technology is based on the gel-drop microarray, called a TruArray®, which differs from competing microarray products in that capture probes are covalently attached to an ultra-high surface area polymer backbone of discrete three dimensional gel-drops rather than a two-dimensional substrate. Consequently, individual gel drops behave as nanoliter, solution-phase test tubes, avoiding unpredictable and/or uncharacterized artifacts arising from probe deposition directly on a two-dimensional surface.

The TruDiagnosis system allows workflow-integrated processing from sample preparation to detection. These features become very important as they enable Akonni to develop and implement low-cost microarray tests and a portable imaging device without sacrificing analytical sensitivity.
